World Book Day - April 23rd

April 23, 2020

Two people reading books next to each other.

What better time to celebrate World Book Day this year than in the midst of social distancing and quarantining? World Book Day is celebrated annually on April 23rd. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) deemed this a day to be celebrated worldwide. This is a day for celebrating the love, enjoyment, and happiness that reading brings to people’s lives all across the world. Here are some ways that you and your friends and family in your household can celebrate World Book Day this April 23rd.

Show your love and support to your local bookstores.

With the majority of non-essential businesses being forced to temporarily shut down because of the coronavirus, it may be difficult to show your support by purchasing books this year. However, check-in on Facebook or give your local bookstores a call to see how they are adjusting. If you can’t order merchandise online and you can’t shop inside the store, share an encouraging and supportive post on their social media. Small businesses need support in all ways possible during this trying time.

Have a skit night.

Split the people in your household into teams, and assign each team a popular book. Then, each team will pick their favorite part of the book and turn it into an acted out skit. You can decide how long or short you want each skit to be depending on how many teams you’ll have. This is a great way to celebrate World Book Day, plus it will bring everyone a whole lot of laughter. Of course, don’t forget the popcorn for the viewers!

Check your online book sources.

Many bookstores and online bookstores will be running specials on World Book Day this April 23rd. If you search hard enough, you will be sure to find some free electronic books that you can start reading right away!

Take this day to sit back and unwind. We could all use a brain break, and there is no better way to do that than to read a good book. If you haven’t already, take this day to sign up for BookCase.Club’s monthly subscription service. You will receive two books of your favorite genre by mail each month for only $9.99.
