Which E-Reader is Best for You?

August 24, 2020

A reading tablet leaned up in front of a stack of books on a table.

E-readers have taken the world by storm in the last decade, and now there are tons on the market. These devices are helpful because you don’t have distractions of notifications with social media, emails, or text messages. E-books use E Ink technology, have excellent battery life, and the display won’t get washed out by the sunlight. E-books are ideal for all situations, including the beach, since some are water-resistant. Here are our favorite options for your e-reader needs.

Best All-Around: Amazon Kindle Paperwhite

The Kindle Paperwhite screen has the same 300-dots-per-inch pixel density, which is incredible quality. The Paperwhite is light and small, with a side-lit screen that allows you to read in dim lighting. The scope and price make this e-reader top of the market.

Best Big Screen: Kobo Forma

Kobo has proven itself to be Amazon’s main competitor for e-readers. Besides books, Kobos also include graphic novels. If you are looking for a large screen, the Forma option is for you. The large 8-inch display is sharp, clean, and offers a blue-light filter to help your eyes. The Forma has page-turning buttons, which makes it easier to read one-handed.

Best Water-Resistant: Kobo Libra H2O

This 7-inch Carta E-Ink touchscreen is a finely-sized waterproof e-reader you can take to the pool, lake, or beach. The body of the H2O e-reader is made of grippy plastic. It is IPX8 rated so that you can drop your e-reader in the water, and it will be okay up to two meters for 60 minutes without damage.

Best Budget-Friendly: Amazon Kindle

Amazon just updated its basic Kindle, making it the perfect e-reader for anyone on a budget. Although it is not high-resolution or water-resistant, this is still an excellent e-reader. This Kindle comes in black and white color options, and there are tons of cases on the market to personalize your e-reader. This is the lightest Kindle and is priced at $89.99, making it the cheapest on the market of Amazon Kindles.
