September's Featured Author: Greg Iles

BookCase.Club would like to highlight Greg Iles as this month's featured author! Iles is a #1 New York Times bestseller for his book Mississippi Blood and has many other New York Times bestsellers in his collection.

Iles was born in Germany in 1960 during the height of the Cold War, where his father ran a US Embassy Medical Clinic. Iles grew up in Natchez, Mississippi, where he and his brother would listen to stories told by their beloved nanny "Mamma Callie," who was born enslaved. Iles graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1983 and wrote his first novel ten years later, in 1993, a thriller called Spandau Phoenix about a Nazi war criminal, Rudolf Hess.

Iles is a member of the rock band, The Rock Bottom Remainders, a group in which Stephen King is also a member. The group consisted of published writers who dabbled in music, and their shows raised two million dollars for charity.

Most of Iles' writings occur in the deep south, including his famous Natchez Burning Trilogy, which can now be read as a six-book series. His popular thrillers gave Iles a platform to share his views on The Lost Cause Myth, incorporated in his latest Penn Cage novel. His famous Natchez Burning Trilogy is about Penn Cage, a man shattered by grief, who returns to Natchez, Mississippi only to find his family trapped in a mystery that has been buried for thirty years, now set to trap Penn as well.

Iles has also written many stand-alone thrillers, including his novel Cemetery Road: A Novel, a story of friendship, betrayal, shattering secrets, and two murders that must be solved by experienced journalist Marshall McEwan when he returns to his small Mississippi town. Another popular stand-alone thriller, 24 Hours, is about a family under attack from a psychopath known for unstoppable kidnappings, who take matters into their own hands to protect their child. Iles also wrote a screenplay for 24 Hours, released under the name Trapped in 2002.
