November’s Featured Author: Jodi Thomas
In this month’s featured author blog, we want to recognize a well-known author named Jodi Thomas. Thomas is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than 50 novels and 15 short story collections. Her work ranges from short stories for children to mature romance novels for adults.
Thomas is a fifth-generation Texan who has used her knowledge and experience growing up in Texas to create a prominent theme within her work. She has received countless awards, most notably, in July of 2006 she became the 11th woman to ever be inducted into the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame. This was a result of winning her third RITA in the category “short historical romance.” She won the award for her work The Texans Reward, which is a part of a larger series called The Wife Lottery Series. Thomas was also honored in 2002 as a distinguished alumnus by Texas Tech University, and in 2003 she became the second writer-in-residence at West Texas A&M University.
Thomas is not only a bestselling author, she is also a former teacher. She taught family living at Amarillo High School for fifteen years. Thomas got her master's degree in family studies from Texas Tech University and this allowed her to teach family studies and to be knowledgeable enough to write about family dynamics within her work.
In her book Morning on Main, she writes about the journey of a woman in search to find her estranged father. This woman's name is Jillian James and she has been a wanderer since birth. While in search to find clues about her father, she lands in a small community in Texas called Laurel Springs. She unexpectedly meets Conner Larady, a single dad caring for his grandmother Eugenia who suffers from Alzheimer's. As Jillian grows closer to the two she is faced with either following in her father's footsteps or making Laurel Springs her home.
