If you have always wanted to write a novel, November might be the time to find some inspiration. National Novel Writing Month is a time for people to give writing a shot, so if you’ve always had a love for telling stories and being creative, challenge yourself to write a novel this November. National Novel Writing Month, also is known as “NaNoWriMo,” is a nonprofit organization that “provides tools, structure, community, and encouragement to help people find their voices, achieve creative goals, and build new worlds.”

National Novel Writing Month was started by freelance writer, Chris Baty, in San Francisco in 1999 as a challenge to write 50,000 words of a novel in thirty days. It originally began in July, but in 2000, the organization switched from July to November. You start on November 1 and end on November 30; the terms are simple but they also provide a substantial and daunting challenge.

At BookCase.Club, we love NaNoWriMo because it challenges our inner-writer to just go for it. The deadline pushes many people to limits they never thought they could reach, and some incredible results can come from it.

One way you can celebrate the month without having to write anything is by supporting the nonprofit, itself. When you donate to NaNoWriMo, the number of writing programs and resources across the country increase. Another way to celebrate is by supporting the authors; if you know someone participating, share some motivational quotes, read what they’ve written so far, or even provide some junk food for their all-nighters. Whatever way you choose to celebrate, know that you can help give back to the community when you do.

Another way to celebrate is to read published novels from the month. Cinder by Marissa Meyer is an excellent novel from NaNoWriMo that is a wonderful read if you want to celebrate the month without having to write a story. Fun fact, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen, was written in NaNoWriMo and was later adapted into an award-winning film. Who knows - if you write a story this month, maybe it’ll be adapted into a hit movie!

At BookCase.Club, we are excited to celebrate anything that has to do with reading, writing, and novels. If you need some good reads this month, make sure you are subscribed to the genre of your choice to receive two books for just $9.99. Visit our website for more information!
