January’s Featured Author: Karen Kingsbury
Our first featured author of the 2022 new year is New York Times bestselling novelist Karen Kingsbury. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, Karen is the daughter of Anne and Ted Kingsbury and the oldest of five children. She graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a degree in journalism in 1986 and quickly began work as a writer for the Los Angeles Times. While working for the Los Angeles Times, Karen met her now-husband, Don.
Karen and Don got married in July of 1989, soon after Karen found out she was pregnant and decided she needed to figure out a way to work from home. During this time, Karen sold a sad true murder story she had written for the newspaper to People Magazine. After the story ran in the magazine, a literary agent in New York contacted Kingsbury to write a proposal. The result of which led Karen to quit her job at the newspaper and she has been writing books ever since.
Kingsbury originally began by writing four true crime books but soon realized she wanted to pursue her original plan of being a novelist. Karen decided that she wanted to write books that represented her faith in God, but she struggled to find publishers for this kind of work.
A year later she received word from Multnomah Publishers and has been writing what she calls life-changing fiction ever since! Karen is now a mother of six and resides in Tennessee with her husband Don.
