December’s Featured Author: Dianne Freeman

One of our December Thrill Seeker books is A Lady’s Guide to Etiquette and Murder, written by Dianne Freeman. In this debut novel, we’re introduced to the world of the Countess of Harleigh mysteries, a series that now contains four books with a fifth on its way in July 2022.

Kirkus Reviews called A Lady’s Guide to Etiquette and Murder a “lighthearted debut tale of mystery, love, and a delightful sleuth” that will “leave you wanting more - which is presumably just what Freeman had in mind.”

Other books in the series include A Lady’s Guide to Gossip and Murder, A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Murder, A Fiancee’s Guide to First Wives and Murder, and coming in July, A Bride’s Guide to Marriage and Murder.

Freeman’s inspiration started with novels given to her by her mother - authors like Edith Wharton and Agatha Christie and some of the great mystery writers of the late Victorian era. Her background includes a career in corporate finance where she used writing as an occasional creative outlet. Though she took a break for about fourteen years, after all, life happens, in retirement, she found inspiration and has published the Countess of Harleigh series over the last three years.

In A Lady’s Guide to Etiquette and Murder, we meet Frances, the Countess of Harleigh, a young, American-born widow enjoying unprecedented freedom during the London season. With her mourning period over, she, her young daughter, and her sister, newly arrived from London start to enjoy the parties and elegance of London. But as police receive an anonymous letter implicating her in her husband’s death, an inspector brings death to her doorstep, a dashing new neighbor enters the picture, and a series of mysterious burglaries begin plaguing London’s elite. With a dash of romance and quite a bit of murder and mystery, A Lady’s Guide is a great addition to your mystery collection.
